You want a website that developers can easily work on so you can get new features shipped and bugs quickly removed.

You’re concerned that untested changes are being deployed to your live website; it’s an accident waiting to happen.

When new developers work on your system it can take them days to be ready to start work. They complain that it’s complicated, with lots of fiddly dependencies that are not documented.

Your hosting company recently told you that the server that your website has been on for years needs to be upgraded and you’re worried that this will result in a lot of downtime.

You’ve read about code version control, but are not sure it’s being used on your project, isn’t that a risk?

Relationships with your development team are turning sour and you’re starting to feel exposed.

Take back control of your assets

You need your website to be portable.

It needs to work on any compatible server with the minimum of fuss.

You don’t want to be tied to any particular supplier and you want developers to be able to work on your website any time.

Any deployments to the live site should be properly tested first and signed off before being copied over.

If a problem does occur upon deployment then you need to revert, quickly, to the last working version.

You need a Portable Web Stack.

There are many tangible benefits to having a truly portable architecture for your application (you can read about some here) but, at its core, by portable we mean:

  • The application can be moved between servers easily, preferably at the touch of a button
  • That multiple developers can work on the application at the same time
  • That all external services like version control or issue tracking which support the application are owned by you, not us or your other developers
  • You are not tied to any single service provider or developer

Get portable web infrastructure from Siftware

Our fixed-price portable website service is the perfect solution for taking back control of your system and ensuring that it is built on solid foundations.

We write scripts that will build you a new server automatically, ready to accept your application.

You get a separate server for testing and your code under version control, on infrastructure that you own.

All deployments to servers are automated which removes user error and it’s easy to roll back if a problem does occur.

Developers unfamiliar with your system are able to get everything running quickly. They can refer to the supplied documentation so they know where everything is and importantly, the safe way to deploy to test and live.

Your assets are protected and monitored on the newest and most secure servers.

Hang on, I have some questions…

Sounds great, but how much does this cost?

For a single complex application sitting on a single server our guide price is £2,500 ex UK VAT.

This price would cover everything needed to take back control of your website and make it truly portable.

OK, but my website is really complicated, spanning multiple servers

No problem for us, we’re used to this. We’ll take a look at your system and provide you with a fixed price based on the extra work that will be needed to get your servers all running smoothly.

Can I keep the same hosting company?

Absolutely.

We do not provide web hosting and we are not wedded to any given hosting provider, so we have no vested interest in recommending one provider over another.

As long as your current hosts can provide you with a secure hosting environment, good and timely support when it’s needed and ideally management services like regular patching and back-ups then we are happy to work with them.

I don’t want to alienate our current designers or agency

That’s fine, we work well with our peers. We’re not looking to steal way any design work or web design services; it’s not what we do. We only supply support services or do maintenance work on complex, behind the scenes web software projects.

We can do this work and then hand the keys back to you or your developers at the end. If at some point in the future you decide that you’d like the option to work with other developer teams, including us, then your system is ready to be worked on by any competent developer.

This all sounds complicated, I need to do further research.

You might want to check some of the guides that we’ve put together. They should help you understand why this is really important for your business.
